LARRY CHAPMAN

Transylvania County native Larry Chapman was elected and served eight years on the TC Board of Commissioners (including two years as chairman). He term limited himself in 2018.

He graduated from Brevard High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Western Carolina University. He then entered the U.S. Marine Corps and upon graduation from Officer Candidate School was Commissioned as a Marine Infantry Officer.

After completion of active duty, Mr. Chapman returned to Transylvania County with his family. He remained in the Marine Corps Reserve and retired after 30 years total service as a Colonel. He worked 27 years at Ecusta prior to its closure, and then 14 more years with an international paper company. He retired as VP of Tobacco Paper Sales, a position which required extensive international travel.

He and his wife, Jill, live in Pisgah Forest and have three grown children and two grandchildren who attend Transylvania County Schools. They are active members of First United Methodist Church in Brevard.

 

JASON CHAPPELL 

Candidate for Transylvania County Commission

Jason Chappell is currently serving in his fourth term on the Board of Commissioners. Having been elected in November 2004, and re-elected in 2008, 2012 and most recently 2016, he is the first County Commissioner to be elected to four consecutive terms. He served as Chairman of the Board of Commissioners from 2004-2008. He also has previously served as Chairman of the Land of Sky Regional Council.

Mr. Chappell graduated from Rosman High School and went on to receive his Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Appalachian State University. He also completed the Vision Brevard/Transylvania Program in 2007 and completed Blue Ridge Community Colleges’ Inaugural class of the Blue Ridge Community College Leadership Institute in 2011. He has worked at Blue Ridge Community College since 2003 and currently is Director of Transylvania County NCWorks Career Centers.  In 2017, Transylvania County earned the designation as an ACT Certified Workready Community. 

 

JAKE DALTON

Jake Dalton is serving his first term on the Board of Commissioners, having been appointed in May of 2020. Mr. Dalton is an earnest advocate for private property rights, and Economic Development for Transylvania County. He served two consecutive, three-year terms on the Transylvania Economic Development Board and was vice-chairman for two years.

He currently operates two Transylvania County businesses. Dalton Insurance agency was founded in 1995, and now specializes in Medicare/Retirement and Life/Health Insurance planning. In 2016, he and a partner opened Next Level Fitness near Rosman to provide a wellness facility for the west-end of the county.

He and his wife Tanya have four children (Shanequa’, Kline, Chantel, and Kaegan) and three grandchildren. They live in the Gloucester community. Their heritage is a multi-generational lineage in Transylvania County dating to the original founding of the County. They are lifelong members of North Toxaway Baptist Church, where Tanya’s grandfather was an original founder.

Mr. Dalton graduated from Rosman High School and completed an associate's degree at Brevard College. He later earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology, with a minor in Gerontology, from Lander University in Greenwood, S.C.

 

TERESA McCALL

Born and raised in Transylvania County, Teresa McCall and her husband, Scott, have ties back eight generations in Transylvania. She and Scott have two adult children, Stephanie and Casey, a daughter in-law Brittany, and grandchildren Allie and Grayson. Teresa and Scott are founding members of Brevard Community Church.  They will celebrate their 38th wedding anniversary later this year.     

She graduated from Brevard High School in 1973 and later earned an Associates Degree in Business Administration from Blue Ridge Community College.  

In 1982, she began a 37-year career with the National Park Service, starting as a part-time administrative clerk at the Blue Ridge Parkway and retiring as Chief of Administration of the Parkway in 2019. She was responsible for management and supervision of a broad spectrum of day-to-day administrative and business requirements.

Mrs. McCall was elected to the Board of Education by the voters of Transylvania County, serving three terms and six years as Chairwoman. Later, she was appointed by the Transylvania County Board of Commissioners for four years as a trustee for Blue Ridge Community College.   

With over half century of proven elected and public service experience to her credit, Teresa will bring a wealth of knowledge, expertise, and renewed sense of energy and commitment to the Board of Commissioners. 

 

TAWNY McCOY

Tawny McCoy is a proud native and lifelong resident of Transylvania County. She is a graduate of Brevard College and a 1980 graduate of Rosman High School.  Her husband of thirty-one years, Keith McCoy, is also a Transylvania County native. They have one son Adam, a graduate of Rosman High School who currently practices corporate law in New York City. She is an active member of Rosman Baptist Tabernacle where she serves as a Sunday School teacher and church pianist.

She has been honored to serve on the Board of Education since 2008, serving as Vice-Chair of the Board from 2009-2012, and serving as the chair since December 2012. During her tenure on the Board, Tawny has been proud to serve on numerous boards and work with the excellent administrators, teachers, parents, and students that help make our school system one of the best in the state.
